A part straight from the printer or mill does not always match the final look of the product. Surface finishing affects both appearance and resistance to corrosion, wear and weather.

Basic finishing

For milled parts, this means removing sharp edges and burrs. For 3D-printed parts, it means removing supports and cleaning the surface. We agree the extent of finishing according to the purpose of the part.

Sanding and filling

With FDM printing, the layers are visible. If the surface is to be smooth, the part is sanded and filled as needed. This is also preparation before painting.

Painting and colouring

Paint evens out the colour, covers the layers from printing and can improve resistance to UV radiation and the outdoor environment. It suits products, presentation models and parts intended for outdoor use.

Anodising aluminium

Anodising is an electrochemical process that creates a hard, corrosion-resistant layer on aluminium. It also allows coloured finishes, most often black or silver. It is used on milled aluminium parts such as equipment housings or structural elements.

Special finishes

For electroplating, sand blasting or polishing to a high gloss, we agree the procedure and scope individually according to the part.

Tip: If the part will be exposed to the outdoors, say so in your enquiry. We can then suggest a material and a finish that will work well together over the long term.

What to choose

For prototypes and internal parts, basic finishing is often enough. For products for end customers or for more demanding environments, it is worth considering painting or anodising.
